Magic Blue over Calcite interior. 51k miles.

Kinja'd!!!

Drove it and walked away very impressed. Seems solid, top works flawlessly, seats looks surprisingly fresh. Things to look out for, comments/concerns/ recommendations for second generation C70s in general? Common things that break?

Trying to do my due diligence before I attempt to pull the trigger on rejoining the Volvo world.

If I were you, I’d just keep the Sentra like you originally were planning on. The volvo is nice and all, and the miles are rather low for the year, but when it comes down to it, it’s six years older with 40k+ more miles. It certainly won't be more reliable in the long run. Sorry for trying to be the voice of reason.

All of the P1 Volvos (C30, S40, V50, C70) are fairly reliable. The interiors and electronics have minor issues, I’ve heard about the seat tracks and the ignition interlocks, but neither are serious/expensive. I will say, the retractable hardtop C70 is going to have the highest chance for issues compared to a fixed-roof, manual car.

I can imagine, considering that the C70 seems to have considerably more toys than the other P1 Volvos, presumably to try and justify the cost premium when they were new. I tried to find posts online of people complaining about their top breaking but I honestly didn’t find anything. I’m sure it would be a very expensive repair if the mechanism were to fail, but I’m wondering if there is some sort of preventative maintenance to increase the lifespan of it.

It looks like most of the roof failures have to do with the switching and electronics in the roof mechanisms; I don’t imagine there’s any preventative maintenance possible other than keeping rain gutters clear and/or not driving in the rain.
